NRA and other clubs

Hi, all.

Sorry for the daft question. My club membership is ending at the end of this month, and I'm sending off the forms to join the NRA nowish. I don't think I'll be renewing my club membership, but what I need to know is, can you 'just' be a member of the NRA?
As in, can my 'good reason' for possessing firearms be 'i'm a member of the NRA'?

No.

But that is the answer for membership of any club.

However, the NRA, as a Home Office Approved club, can meet the requirement to be a member of one such if you want a FAC conditioned for target shooting.

"Good reason" in the target shooting context, comes by demonstrating that you do actually go target shooting. How you demonstrate that is up to you. Your club is required to keep a record of your attendance (the NRA does keep such records but requires your participation in entering the information), and the police may reasonably check your demonstration against your club's records.

Thanks, Ian.

Sorry to ask again, I cannot seem to wrap my head around this. Since I started shooting I've only ever been a member of one club, but now, I don't think I'll be renewing my membership.

If I join the NRA, do I need to be a member of a Home Office approved club as well as a member of the NRA, or can I just be a member of the NRA?

Have you got an FAC?

If not then you would need to join NRA as a member of a HOA club (ie before you leave other club). You could then leave other club as you can have NRA as your primary club.

Talk to Heather or Nick at NRA 01483 797777 ext 155

Hi, Karen.

Thanks. Yes, I've got an FAC, and SGC, and Explosive licence, and all that lovely stuff. My current club is a HOA one, too.

So does that mean I can join the NRA now, and when my current membership runs out the NRA will be my primary club?

The NRA is a Home Office Approved Club in its own right - Approval no CFP 10 1/7/4/1/2/1/2/3/320 valid to 30 June 2016 covering small bore rifles, full bore rifles and muzzle loading pistols and issued in the name of some bloke called Mr IW Robertson MBE.

Bisley. Surely that's evident in an application to the NRA?
