Lead harness test.

I have a pile of lead ingots I also have a pile of range scrap melted into ingots I have mixed them up and I don't know which is which is there any way I can determine which is which with out a hardness tester. Help.

Bring some to the range next time you are down and remind me beforehand to take my tester down.
You can always drop them and if they ring they are hard if the don't then they are soft.
You can stick them in a vice with a ball bearing and give a bit turn, so long as the bit turn is the same with each ingot measuring the size of the indent will give you a measure of relative thickness, larger the indent softer the lead.

Knock them together by their edges. If one ingot is significantly harder, it dents t'other more.
