New Lapua Brass

Hi,

I am relatively new to reloading and so far I have been reusing PPU cases which have now come to the end of their life.

So I have purchased a new boxes of 223 and 6.5x55 Lapua Brass, expensive but I hope worth it as the PPU only lasted 2-3 reloads.

The question I have is do I need to FL or Neck size the new cases or just load and shoot?

Thanks

David

Full length resize, trim to length and true case mouth, clean and uniform flash hole, load and shoot. Next reloads, neck size only.

Someone else may have a variation to this.

Pretty much what he said altough subsequent resizing depends on use.

Cheers for the fast replies.

But what do you mean by "true case mouth" as this is not a term I have heard before?

Make sure the mouth is square with the case, this should happen when you trim.

Most of my trimming isn't because the cases are too long it is to ensure that they are the same size and the mouths are square.

What was wrong with the PPU?

Annealing would have given better life, I usually get at least 6 reloads from mine without annealing.

I am getting about 15% of my 223 cases stuck in the chamber after firing but with no other signs of over pressure.

The load in 24.8gr of N-133 under a 52gr Amax 10 thou from the lands, so towards the top of the range.

You could lightly chamfer the inside of the neck but otherwise just load and shoot.

No just neck, but did try FL to try to eliminate the issue but it only made them last one more reload.

If I cover the case in marker pen the only bit being rubbed off is in the middle third of the case wall.

BTW have you chronographed those loads?
