Vortek Striker Fire

Following on from my previous post

I read with interest about these Vortek rifles due for release in June:

Anyone else think that these look interesting? Not particularly in to the real tree paint job but the idea really does appeal and might just get me in to muzzle loading.
Elsewhere on the internet the range is said to be set to retail between $450 - £550 USD.
All we have to do now is import them from Canada!

The only nitro proofed (i.e. smokeless powder) muzzle loading rifle I could find was the Savage 10ML-II which has been discontinued.

Although looking further, it appears that Savage is maintaining limited production.
If I caught the ML bug again this could be an option for my Rossi or NEF rifles -

As Kranks have the ones with the Hammer, would they not import these too?

I emailed Kranks on the 30th asking if they might be getting these in etc.
No reply, not of any sort.
So despite trying to support the UK importer, I may make enquiries elsewhere as this design is holding my interest,

I thought you wanted a Nitro capable ML rifle? These seem to be standard black powder ML rifles.

My goodness those Swing-Lock rifles do look lovely bits of kit. They also look very expensive.
Any idea if they are getting in to the UK or even how much they are costing state side?

No idea, but I'm thinking if you have to ask you can't afford it.
They look very nice and if I could, I'd make room for one...if only...sigh!

I have still not heard back from Viking.
I contacted Tom who makes the Swing-Lock rifles and he has been kind enough to reply

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you and I'm very glad you
like what you see.
For the longest range shooting, I would most recommend .416 cal. but
6.5 mm is also a popular long range choice and 7 mm would certainly be
good as well. Cost for a basic rifle would be approx. $7000 without
shipping which is a big ?. I have never shipped overseas and am not
sure what the requirements are. Delivery at present is approx. 36
months.

36 Months delivery time is an awful long time to wait for a firearm, even a custom one, and the price is a bit out of my league for something which would be a novelty.
Should any of you be interested you should have a look at his blog. Some of the velocities are very high, and his 100 yard targets are very acceptable.
Hornady 185 gr XTP bullet at a velocity of over 3300 fps and group size of about .91 In. It is plenty accurate enough for obliterating varmints at shorter ranges. While, the target on the right was shot using the Barnes solid copper Super Shock 500 gr X bullets at approximately 1870 fps with a group size of approx. .59 In. Considering that bullet can be shot at over 2130 fps it could certainly do the number on an elephant or buffalo over in Africa! A very neat thought indeed.Varmints or elephants all with one rifle!
