Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine

Today I got to shoot Leeroys M44 carbine down at URC. For all of the talk on various websites I actually found it fairly docile. Obviously there are the very large flashes from the muzzle but in terms of kick I thought that it was equal to my No4 and less than my K98. The recoil was more of a push than a thump, nice and progressive, which is strange because the same cartridge in a Dragonov is very snappy. So my thoughts are :
The ammo was milsurp, 50's vintage, it is underpowered
OR
Are all of those people moaning about nothing.
All that I know is that I want one!

Must have been the ammo, mine is great fun and depending on ammo will give a great muzzle flash and kick like a mule, mind you, I've had some tame ammo too but still enjoy shooting it

The surplus ammunition also comes in a wide variety, with steel and lead cored heavy and light ball ammo. I find the heavy ball to be slighter heavier on the recoil in mine

I just don't know guys, questionable accuracy, heavy kick, muzzle blast like a Krupp works 88, pointless fixed bayonet!
YES PLEASE, LOOKS LIKE MY SORT OF RIFLE!

They do look like fun, joking aside what's the accuracy like on these Great Patriotic War horses?

It depends what you want to do with them. We have a 25yd range at Uttox so it's fine there. They all went where I wanted them to do so no complaints. Videos on Youtube show top shots dropped in a five round group (Americans claiming 'thats what they do') but I didn't see that.
As a bit of cheap fun they are just the job. Not sure I'd want to enter a long distance comp though.
btw, Bayonets are not pointless! both literally, and also the Cpl Jones argument!

The Bayonet is a necessity on the M44s, the rifles were zeroed with them fixed. The the addition of the muzzle flash I recon they would make a good marshmallow toaster.
I shoot mine out to 200 metres and not being a particularly good shot (only shot fullbore 5 -7 times a year if I was lucky) I could at 200 keep all the rounds within the black, or one the scoring centre mass of a fig.11.
