... and find it rather appealing, it is chambered in 7,92x58 and best guess is it is from around 1909-10 the 'scope is true to period and may even have been fitted from new. The barrel is octagonal and tapers to a round section muzzle. I am not sure if it should be left exactly as it is and just shot and enjoyed or possible shipped off to someone who has experiance of such things for a sympathetic light restoration.

Thoughts anyone?

If / when it comes to a sympathetic restoration, we'd recommend Paul Green at Thames Valley Guns. He's good with preshus stuff....

Restoring her would be like using polyfilla on Claudia Cardinale.

Heresy!

She"s beautiful as she is.
All the electrically you feel when you touch her would be lost.

Don't do it!!!!!!!

I'd leave her be, just a normal clean with white spirit, rub down the woodworks with some linseed oil/turpentine mix, oil the metal, pack some pump grease 'tween the metal and the wood and go and kill bambi. :goodjob:

Very,very nice looking rifle,

I am a sucker for these old sporters (usually I only buy rifles I can put a bayonet on) it has a real look of a posh 1920's/30's safari "camp pot" rifle.

The old Elephant and Lion cannon is put away for the day and out comes this beauty to bag an Antelope for the pot!

Question is, do you have the bullet loop safari suit, pith helmet and monocle to go with it Ovenpaa

All I have is the pictures to go on and a very excited Dane on the other end of the 'phone who has been relaying information. I said I was after a 9,3x62 Mauser and he found this instead, sent me some mobile 'phone pictures and asked if I wanted him to pay for it on the spot, I dithered for a while and then said yes please.

He thinks it is mid 20's based on the proof marks under the woodwork however the visible stamps on the left hand side of the receiver would suggest earlier and the copy of Beschusszeichen R.G.C has very kindly lent to me looks to confirm this is indeed a pre-1912 receiver/rifle. Unfortunately my Mauser reference books are out on loan at the moment so I am struggling to find out more so if anyone has anything on the Mauser marque and can tell me a bit more I would be very grateful.
