I have recently acquired a Swedish Mauser cg63 .After cleaning many years of crud from it and the barrel I have to load some ammo. The only info I can find lists the twist rate at 8.75 .I ave 120gr amax ,Lapua Scenar 139gr and SMK 140gr.My old 6.5 -55 had a 7.5" twist .Any suggestions for a starting load? My main question is -can anyone point me to site where I can find out more about this rifle ,I have looked at all the usual suspects and there are lots of mentions but no serious info .

The best description and information is to be found in Crown Jewels by Dana Jones.
http://www.amazon.com/Crown-Jewels-Maus ... Hardcover]
The Scenars or SMKs will work well over a good charge of Vihtavuori N160, I can give you more detail when I get back south and have my references to hand. A starting load of 40 gns N160 should get you going.

What info are you looking for?
Have you checked out the Mil-Surps Forum?
Stick to 139/140 grn bullets, or thereabouts...I can post loads from the Viht & other manuals if you need them
The Dana Jones books is
okay - but has a few errors & mistakes
There are a couple more decent titles on the Swede rifles - one by another American & one by a German
I may be able to get exploded drawings of the sight on your CG63 if you let me know what model it is...

The sight is a Soderin ,I have it soaking in plus gas as the knobs were impossible to turn ,it was well clarted up with much dried oil.I have dosed the bore with that magic c2r stuff overnight ,we'll see what crunge exits in the morn. The butt-pad is missing so that's something to find ,I don't want to put a rubber Parker Hale type on it ,that would be sacrilege. The trigger box is also soaking ,it looks similar to a Timney -- also clarted up ! TheCover crown date is 76 and the examiners letters are MB ,beyond that I know nothing -- oh - Schultz and Larsen Danmrk on the knox form.
Lovin it already and I've not shot it yet .
Under the dirt on the stock it's walnut --- nice !

S&L barrels have a good reputation however it is very dependant on how it has been looked after.

Question if I may what distances are you going to be shooting it over, as I have just been reading they were designed for 300m match shoots.
Hope it cleans up well for you, they look a nice rifle.

We can shoot up to 600 locally ,more often 100 or 300 though ,many shooters don't want to go to 600 often .
I'll just have to see how it goes .

Just run the patch through the barrel ,first one came out black ,by the time I got a relatively clean one I had used ten patches . I reapplied the magic gunk C2R and left it another hour and the first patch was greeny black ,another load of patches later it looked bright and clean. But I have just done the C2R again and after a much needed cuppa will start again with paatches.Good job I've got two rolls of MOD 4x2!
Bore looks good with sharp rifling so fingers crossed.
