Using it today, put about 50 rounds through it (CCI minimag) then it just stopped. It ejected a spent case, loaded another round into the chamber, but the trigger is jammed solid. Feels as though the safety is on (it's not, btw). Got it home, stripped and cleaned it, can't see anything obviously wrong with it, but the trigger is still not releasing. Any ideas?

No, kind of ran out of time and patience before I got that far!! Thinking about it since I posted, is it possible for the safety to engage (through malfunction) without the external catch being affected? That seems to move (and feel) as normal.

In all honesty, I reckon you have a build up of oil, unburnt powder, carbon and brass shavings that have just gummed it all up. Especially if it's never been stripped before.

Yep, really straight forward, you just need to be aware of a couple of things. You release the mech from the reciever via a bolt that you reach inside the pistol grip. Once this bolt is out, wiggle the trigger mech back and forward whilst pulling it up and free of the reciever.

To note, there are two brass shims on pins on one side and a plate on the other side of the mech. These are not captured. Take the mech out slowly and watch where they fall! The smallest shim came off the front!

Under the plate as well is a spring that is also not captured. Just use some tweezers to take hold of it. The rest is just take note of where screws and springs were removed from and what fits on what locating pins.

Right, pulled it all apart, only lost one bit, but that's another story.... The problem seems to be as follows:-

As you look at the trigger group from above, you have, in the centre, the hammer. To the left is a steel part, shaped vaguely like a fork. To the right, a black steel thin plate, which is held in place by two springs. If you press this black plate back by about 1mm, the trigger works perfectly, when you cock the hammer, the plate moves forwards to its full extent and the trigger is locked. Apply slight pressure to the front of this plate and it works again. Thinking that the block would provide this forward pressure, I put it all back together (minus 1 small brass bush that is now hidden among the detritus of the garage floor) and it's no different.

I could understand it failing to function after I had stripped/reassembled it - that would mean that I had done something wrong, but to lock up mid mag has got me baffled. Everything is now spotlessly clean......

I think the bit you are talking about is the mag safety. Is there something blocking it's movement to the rear, hence not disengaging the safety?

It is common practice in the US to disconect the mag safety. It is operated simply by the spring on the right hand side of the trigger mech wall. Literally just take this spring out and the safety should move freely. Make sure it does and allows the trigger to operate, then stick a blob of Araldite on it to stop it flopping about and making a noise....
