Range Location

#1 Post by Polchraine »

Are we too risk averse in this country with range location, backstops, &c

Have a look at: http://goo.gl/maps/n3I6s scan left and right ...

The road is the SA equivalent of an major A road, the range is less than a mile outside a major town ...

Glorious. The roads run behind the backstop on the left hand range!!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Been there, they were very polite but I didn't get a closer look than the road.

That is a lovely journey which I hope to do again some day.

you should see some of the Swiss ranges !mind you the backstop is a bit higher than 20M  and there are several alongside the main motorways as well, but I couldn't remember whereabouts

That is a luxury one ... I have done quite a bit of train travel in Switzerland and every few km I would see a set of 1m diameter 4m long corrugated iron tubes with a wooden platform at one end ... then in the distance would be sets of targets ...

Can't see anything wrong with it and can think of a few ranges where roads run alongside the range.

If I remember correctly Barry Budden has a golf course right next to some of the firing points.

Looks like its associated with a large barrack complex. Nice looking set of ranges. Nice neat large 'berms' which I would think make it OK for it to be so close to the road.
