I never got that far :) watched Kirsten and then got back to work :). I don't feel comfy shooting deer over 200meters at the min being fairly new to stalking. Though I know people who shoot out further. I dont agree with long range shots on game either.

Didn't watch it as it won't let you skip to the shot. I have to say i'm with Kennyc on this subject in general. At those sorts of distances too many things can change down range from the time you pull the trigger to the time the bullet (hopefully) impacts

Too far for certainty therefore unethical IMHO - even though elk are very big beasties.
Too much for such a youngster to really appreciate and I think it showed in the video. From experience in youth leadership (Scouts) I know if you give them the ultimate experiences too soon they don't fully appreciate or value it. - Much better to let them cut their teeth on lesser challenges & have to work for the higher things in life when they are mature enough to truly benefit from it.

Seen too many of these (look how clever we are) long shot Vids. I have yet to see one that shows when they Fukc up big time, and the wounded beast staggers off. It probably takes a long time to cross 1000+ yards of some of the rough terrain portrayed in these films they then have to find and destroy the poor dumb critter... Nah don't like it.

The man who says that he has never either Missed, or wounded a Deer is either a liar, or he hasn't shot many Deer.

Having hunted in Wyoming I have to say that most shots taken in that State are long shots be it in the mountains or on the plains. I've hunted antelope over there and the closest you are going to get to them if you are lucky is around 600 yards. It's the same up in the mountains, the game will see you coming from miles off and take off. I think the average hunter taking a shot like that would miss by a mile as most are unable to read the wind, take into account altitude and other such variables.

Also the elk hunt is a lottery issuing only a set number of kill tags so there aren't actually very many elk harvested by hunters.
