My application was sent on 3/09/12 and it arrived last Thursday 17/01/2012. 4 and a half months basically.
Just have to wait it out really, it'll be worth it in the end :)

The Chief Constable of Kent has to shed some 500 constable positions and over 1000 civilian jobs to meet his budget constraints and cuts. Since the first round he's been told he has to shed another 400.....
Eventually that's going to be a third of the workforce!
I re kon you'll be lucky tozhave it before the spring.

Hey Sim,
Yeah I know. I know people caught up in the last round of the restructuring (which parts of it were a giant waste of money themselves!)
I just wanted to vent and have a moan. I'm not holding my breath for it any time soon.
Getting fed up with shooting PSG with a 2+1!

Wow that’s terrible! Jees it was as much as I could do to wait 4 and a half weeks and I’d paid for 3 of my guns by week two! If it’s any consolation it is worth the wait.

Pretty much how it went for me, all went quite quick with FEO visit and he told me 5-6 weeks, well it was more like 10 weeks after his visit, 16 in total and that was because i had to push them as my cotermious SGC expired. I enquired about variations a couple of weeks ago and they are only just looking at October applications, so i will wait until after the shooting show in Feb before i do that.

Evening,
Had an FEO visit for a variation last week, all approved , but was informed that I should expect at least a 12 week wait for the amended cert. Lack of admin staff was main reason , compounded because this is a busy time for firearm departments dating back to change from 3year to 5year licensing.
As SimG points out budget constraints mean there is unlikely to be an improvement in the turnaround time by kent firearms dept for the foreseeable future. Lots of patience required.
Regards phil

Unfortunately our police area’s rapid turnaround of FAC applications/variations can only go downhill from here on in. The reason being is that our entire firearms licensing department is staffed by civilians and our illustrious and very new police commissioner Mr. Christopher Salmon has pledged cut bureaucracy as his first priority and how is he going to do that I hear you ask?
At a stroke of his mighty pen he has stopped ALL civilian recruitment!!!!!!

Durham (pre Horden incident) were very fast at variations, usually a week at worst. Dropped mine off for change of address and a couple of variations/additions on the 15th, FEO straight out the next day and seemed happy. Will have to see what happens this time.
