Dromia:
if you are serious about shooting why settle for less?
Oh I think my wife will agree with me that I'm serious about shooting, she is forever commenting on the amount of time I spend doing it and all things related with it. Actually Adam I use both type of bullets, factory bullets and cast, I only started casting my own a couple of years back, mainly for my pistols though.

Casting/swaging takes handloading and shooting to a totally different level and is definitely not for everyone especially beginners. So ready made bullets especially jacketed give beginners a level of performance without the added complication of making components. Ready made lead bullets can however lead to dissatisfaction due to the greater need for good bullet fit than with jacketed.

Casting/swaging also requires more financial investment in kit and materials as well as an additional learning curve, however for those of us that value such things the rewards of satisfaction and achievement can be great.

Getting good accuracy from cast at 2,500 fps requires a lot of work, knowledge, experience and attention to detail but once you get there the satisfaction is tremendous. Funnily enough if you want to go faster then paper patching is usually the way to go and this is a bit easier once you've learned the patching skills.

Some of the groups the cast bullet fraternity in the US are truly amazing by anybodies standards.

Shooters spend a lot of time getting high quality actions, barrels, stocks all made and fitted to the highest specifications and tolerances topped of with quality glass that can be as expensive as the rifles not to mention rests and ancillary bits and pieces, they also spend a lot of money on the best handloading tools and cartridge components. So to me having control over the most important element of the cartridge is logical.

Just think if some of the resources and talent in this country that goes into making guns and ammunition went into developing cast bullet shooting where that would take it.

I would love to see a competitive cast bullet circuit in this country but with our small participant base that is as about as likely as one national shooting voice.

Still making and shooting cast bullets in different rifles to the best they can achieve is where my interest lies and it keeps me happy and mightily satisfied and away from the drink and slappers.
