Does anyone have a true statistic that shows how many deaths can be attributed to legally owned, civilian firearms?

Unfortunately not, and the police will never search their database to find out as it is not in the interests of those whose agenda they are promoting.
Most news stories are quoting back to 5 year ago for most recent memorable "massacres".

There's a chart of number of homicides by year in this HMIC report.

If you count Hungerford, Dunblane and Cumbria that's 46 over 28 years, so 1.6 deaths per year! I'm sure I'm missing one "spree" though. Then there are suicides, probably a few there, maybe a few a year.
It'd be interesting to see how they would spin these statistics when they show that guns are far safer than almost everything else!

I suspect there are more suicides than we realise, there was one in my village a couple of years ago, it didn't even make the local news, just word of mouth.

Radio 4 news ran the story this morning, but in a very measured way. They said that incidents involving legally held firearms were extremely rare.
