Sig Sauer P226 LBP

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
What a great thread, I never thought when first posting we would get into so much politics - ref either Cost of the Pistols or the whole issue of the hand gun ban.
But what I really would like is if someone has or knows someone who as the Sig P226 LBP - Can they post info on how it is to shoot and an overview from an owner - video would also be great. In the past we have had good reports on the K22, as it's been on sale for over 12 months and the 1911's even longer. So would be good for all to get feedback on the new boy on the block ?

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
I reckon the only thing you'll find at the moment in way of review, will be on the pistol in its original form. From what I've read and watched, it has a favourable impression, well made and reliable if ran with quality HV ammo. Accuracy and reliability with a 12" version is anyone's guess, but should be at least comparable with the original. At least, as you said, a last round hold open has been facilitated on the UK model.
Remember, in all of this, I don't think anyone has been disparaging about the actual gun, just that in the UK guise, it is far from being an attractive proposition because of the value for money aspect...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
Since this frame is designed to accept a 9mm slide (x change kit ) couldn't the home office / plod class this as too easy to convert to section 5 ?
Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
Well, according to the diatribe sent to qws by Icon, once section 5 always section 5....
(Even though there are plenty of instances where this is not the case and s5 is the result of the sum of the parts brought together and the final outcome ....)

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
As 9mm slides aren't readily available and the tools required to build your own wouldn't be the kind of thing you'd find in the average mancave/potting shed, i doubt they could come at it from that angle, but then again if they decided they didn't like them i'm sure they could make up any old bullsh!t to get them taken off usjoe wrote:Since this frame is designed to accept a 9mm slide (x change kit ) couldn't the home office / plod class this as too easy to convert to section 5 ?

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
The simple point is that the frame has to be manufactured and then registered correctly.
I could make a frame for an airsoft 226 and it be identical to a real frame. Its made as a toy part and that's it.
If someone uses it to make a real Sec 5 gun then they break the law (if they don't have the authority). If they use it to make an LBP then they don't (if they have Sec1 authority). As soon as the part is registered / proofed with a serial number it becomes a firearm component.
While component parts of Sec5 ab (Semi Auto Rifles) are considered Sec1 the same does NOT apply for Sec aba (short barrel/ pistols). These items are ALWAYS Sec5.
So if you buy a frame from the USA made by SIG and they have registered it as a 9MM pistol frame, its illegal in the UK under Section 5 and CANNOT be convert or used in a Sec1 firearm.
SIG would have to make the frame as an LBP receiver or Airsoft receiver in order for it to be legal in the UK.
Now you could buy the frame in the USA and call it anything you wanted for shipping purposes but that would be falsifying the description of goods for export and import and both countries take a dim view of that.
You could also buy all the parts in the USA and make a LBP over there (remember Sec1 and 5 don't exist in the USA so you can convert what you like) then register it as such and export it quite legally. You would have to be a Class7 FFL and have an exporter.
I personally can't see SIG agreeing and registering their frames as something different. So I hope this has been thought out properly as these are apparently being assembled in the UK.
As I said before it is sometimes possible to acquire unregistered frames in Germany as their laws are different, these frames can then legally BE anything you want (theoretically). That was the case for Glock but this has largely been stopped now as Glock tightened up across Europe.
That's my take on it, if there is another legal way then I would be interested to hear it.

Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
It certainly sounds very involved and rather complicated no matter which way you look at it. As you mentioned in your initial post Paul, I hope everyone involved has got their ducks all lined up properly to avoid any involvement of the relevant authorities.
Re: Sig Sauer P226 LBP
so anyone going to get one then ?? i'm very much tempted, but since i've got 9mm lbp on my ticket i'm going to hang on until later on in the year and see what happens ! although to be honest since owning a .44 mag taurus lbr i dont think i could go back to a .22lr
