I'm very happy with my LAR OPS 4 side charging upper. It's primarily meant for semi auto use but works fine for our needs with minimal extensions hanging off the bolt carrier:

It was a LH charging handle, still better than the T-charging handle.

The one pictured replaces the t-charging handle and does not require a modified upper receiver/losing the features mentioned above.

Presumably it is on the left rather than the right side because if it were on the right the cases might bounce off your hand and back into the action, which can happen with SP AK's. Pity as, as mentioned it would be better if it were on the other R/H side (for R/H shooters that is)

OK. Can you recommend a semi-auto centre fire AR I can get licenced for?
Or is it a case of can't shoot well with one? Sounds more like sour grapes.
I can assure you I'm very accurate (and fast) with them. I'd simply prefer to be faster and with less 'cyclic interruption' if that's ok with you?...

I never said I had any physical problem with it ('tiring' as in: mentally tiring / aggravating!) - I simply hate having to after every round fired.
Why don't you buy one of these, you don't need to hack your upper receiver to bits then... I bet ovenpaa could knock you up something much nicer based around the same idea.
No, you're ok! Thanks all the same. :good:

It is a very personal choice . Shooting a straight pull AR is a bit like owning an uber nice convertible 911 : it does not mean you can not drive it but it is bloody frustrating to be restricted to 1st gear only. It's down to personal choice, so I keep my "classic Merc" in the UK and head to German Autobahn for a tad of fun .
