Purely tracer ammunition, in any calibre, is not "destructive" and is Section 1*

Incendiary Tracer (IT) and Armour Piercing Incendiary Tracer (APTI) and the like are indeed Section 5

My renewal came and went and I now have the authority to buy a 9mm rifle. There wasn't any mention of the pending consultation or an accompanying letter, so let's hope that's a positive omen.

We must be close to the final date now. Any news?

This consultation is specifically targeting MARS rifles so you're safe anyway (for now )

I would expect that they wouldn't send a letter with a 7.62x39 or 5.56/.223 variation either (the two calibres the MARS comes in) as you could buy any action rifle with that slot. Unless you specifically wrote in your variation that you were going to use the slot to buy a MARS, I doubt they would say anything.

If Mr. Hurd's letter is to be believed, we will have an update, but probably not an answer, in the next 10 days.

I'm holding my breath and also burning through a lot of 7.62x39 just in case.

It appears that the Home Office has commissioned a company to conduct a number of interviews with members of the firearms business community .

Interviews would be undertaken over the phone and would last up to 40-45 minutes .

The nature of the questions suggests that there may be moves to tighten up requirements that RFD's have to comply with , and also changes in classification of "Antique Firearms " .

What do you think RFDs might have to do, and how might that effect MARS and LR?

It seems that there were no questions about MARS rifles .

The questions about RFD's were the "Have you stopped beating your wife" type of question .

The National Rifle Association, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation, the British Shooting Sports Council, the Gun Trade Association and the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association have been invited to participate.

It is more than possible that different people/organisations got a different set of questions .

Nope, haven't even seen any 'internet rumours'. Maybe the half decent response that seems to have been made have made them think twice, or has my cold started to really affect my brain

I would suggest that this is all a matter of timing...

The cynic in me thinks about the fact that so many are dying from stabbings and now shootings in London that the temptation must be make a grand slam statement - the "something has to be done" approach. You can bury a few sins under the need for public protection.

Add to this the evil Doctor in Scotland that has just been sent down for 12 Years for reactivating several SMGs and possession of some horrible dum dum bullets then who knows...
