Mind you if someone did them in 7.62 Tokarev (7.62x25mm) I'd be very interested. :good:

RE Barrel nut:

I emailed Lan Tac last http://www.lannertactical.com/ night asking if they stock the standard barrel nut for the AR. I was surprised and pleased to get a reply within an hour or so, stating that they did and to give them a call today.
I have just got off the phone with Paul and found him a thoroughly nice chap to deal with. He bore no ill feelings re me purchasing a fore end that he sells, direct from the USA and was only too pleased to give me lots of advice on how to fit it etc.
The nut will be here in the next couple of days and only cost me a £10.

:good: Thumbs up for Paul at Lan Tac, I thoroughly recommend his service and will no doubt be spending more money with him in future,

Personally i think getting the mags in at that angle will be quite awkward, especially when lying prone, good luck to him though, the more lever releases out there the better the open class gallery rifle comps :good:

The second project that Ovenpaa and I took on today was the removal of the "standard" fore end that came with the gun. As previously mentioned there is nothing standard about it and we thought that a peg style tool was going to have to be purchased / made to get the irregular nut off the gun so that we could replace it with a standard AR nut that would allow me to use any standard AR furniture.
Having seen how close the holes in the nut were to the barrel, we felt that we may have damaged the finish on the barrel if we used a peg spanner, so we took a large pair of Stiltons, and with the pair of us and a vice holding all the parts a solid whack loosened the bolt off and that was that.
The Front end that I bought direct from the USA, fitted on with minor adjustments and no special tools. It came with two mating/guide pins that should have ran along side the main scope rail of any standard AR upper. I can not fault the SGC work but the rail was slightly not the same dimensions, so we chopped the two guide pins off the hand rail.

Here are a couple of quick pics as she goes to bed tonight. I am really pleased with the product and the gun feels great and in my opinion looks great. Although the fore hand grip does feel good, it is unlikely that I will use that one on the range other than to zero the gun in, as it has a bi pod built in. I may get one of the angled grips when money allows..

You will have to purchase a separate AR barrel nut should anyone be doing this at home. I got mine from Lan Tac, less than £10 I think he charged me,

Looking very nice indeed....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I'm popping in to see Paul at Lantac tomorrow morning to look at a Raven in 22 and 223. Just going for a look but I know what will happen.........

The fore end is a Samson Evolution 9" https://www.samson-mfg.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?
Because the whole unit dose not attach directly on to the AR barrel nut, they can sell their products without a export licence, you know the one that stops items over $100 being shipped.
They include everything needed including the 2 Allen keys/wrenches, including the thermal bushing which is fitted onto the barrel nut, which in turn the hand guard is fitted to.

If you have ever handled a fore end with 4 rails running all the way down, you will know how uncomfortable they can be, even capable of cutting fingers. The solution is to put the protectors/covers over the top but you end up with something quite chunky and personally speaking I did not like.
This tube only has a rail running along the entire top, which was the same hight as the one on the SGC lever action - as can be seen by the scope being mounted half on one and half on the other.
It comes with two 2" rails and one 4" rail but I am sure that more can be sourced should you need them. Due to the S shaped fixing holes, the rails can be fitted at dozens of different angles around the grip and you are not limited to the 4 of a quad rail. I have mounted one at 45 degrees on the front as I intend to put a small red dot sight up front for close targets.

For my hands, and I think Ovenpaas' we found the diameter of this tube to our liking, the finish is spot on and in case you can't tell I can not recommend it highly enough.

I want to source a flash muzzle break to finish the front end off, some are available but as this is purely cosmetic I will be looking to pay as little as possible, there is of course the option of a moderator but it would have to be very light,
