Sorry - I dont buy that. Its got nothing to do with "earning" it. I have an Army number but I dont feel I have any more right to wear anything than anybody who has not.

I know of ex mil who NEVER earned the sniper smock but wear it anyway. And ex mil who never served in the Falklands but wear a DPM Parka which was only issued to those who did. And ex mil who were not SF but wear SAS smocks.

Are they wearing something they have not earned then ?

You might have a point if it comes to a beret or rank badge but NOT when it comes to some milsurp clothing some geezer wants to wear.

Edit - if the majority of ex forces feel that way - maybe they should start a petition to prohibit the wearing of UK Military uniform - like they have in Ireland.

But the UK Govt has never made it an issue .......... because it really is not. Just like whether my rifle looks like a 10/22 or an AR15. Just like whether I shoot a fig 11 or a bullseye.

My camo is urban/funky style only for now, "real thing" will be only what I used or historic,never present type-I have my own rules,the rest probably not

Funny, if yoe wear camo you are a walt. Yet overweight slobs who could not play professional football to save their lives, can wear a tracksuit of their favourite football team without being called a walt or wannabe footballer.

I was not UK serviceman and most countries have a policy now-NO CURRENT ARMY DRESS FOR CIVILIANS...from obvious reasons,terror threat.
Personally,me thinks it all boils down to the point how do you interpret the word "service"...and I am done here

Is that Northern Ireland / UK, or the Republic of Ireland. ? Why would any serving soldier want to wear their uniforms at the range.

Southern ( Rep of ) Ireland waveirishflag - criminal offence to possess or sell Irish Army uniform.

And they dont sell surplus - it gets binned.

I dont know of any other countries in Europe where that is the case. Every other country I know of, one can buy surplus items in the style / pattern of current uniform ?

At the end of the day, as has been said, its a non-issue - let people wear what they want. You dont have to like it. Just respect that individuals freedom to wear what he wants.

Like I expect to have my choice of rifle respected !

Really - care to name any in Europe ? I imagine dictatorships in Africa may have, or maybe China or Korea.

the swiss don't allow surplus sales, but serving can buy new uniforms from multiple places.
