farmers are already being subsidised massivly just to keep going yet you think the government should give them more of our taxes to farm differently without doing a trial of what may turn into a very cost effective and efficient control method for TB ?

it's a localised trial and without it we STILL won't know if it works or not?

Yes, I do think the farmers should be helped more, financially as well, where are we without them?

The best way of helping farmers is to release them from the thrall of the supermarket chains and develop local procurement and distribution.

The law regarding the shooting of Deer in England forbids the shooting of deer in the close season the same applies to shooting them at night. However, a landowner, if he can prove they are doing damage can apply for a licence to do both. I would suggest that a landowner who is having to have his cows slaughtered because of bTB should be allowed to do like wise with the badgers on his land.
On the subject of environmentalists anyone remember the story of the Newbury Bypass and the Desmoulin's whorl snail,..............God save us from do gooders and bloody environmentalists.

I do not agree with the actions taken by the activists at all however I would like to point out that it is not just one group of people being against the cull, there are activists, people with degrees and I am sure other groups in society who without in depth knowledge just do not think it sounds right.

Think about it, what sort of society do we live in when culling is the answer to a problem that ought to be under control with better farming techniques supported by their own government? We are letting the farmers down, the very same we depend upon for food, shame on us and shame on our government.

I see nothing rational nor logical about culling a species in order to get rid of a man made problem. Of course it will work, culling the badgers, that is logic for hens.

Then if it will work surely it is logical to do it. Why do you and the other 100,000 + not rail against the slaughter of hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of rats annually? Most of these die a horrid death from taking poisoned bait. but these aren't photogenic creatures are they?

Did you look at the videos of farmers on the site I linked to, who in spite of their best efforts and farming practice are still getting reactors and having to slaughter them.

Once again........ The Badger is not an endangered species and has no natural predators it should be subject to control. As with Deer. Culling is the LOGICAL answer.And that is the conclusion of DEFAs scientists.

Actually many do 'rail against' this - I've said at least 3 time on the forum that the way we consistently fail to secure our waste properly (both commercial and domestic) is the cause of many rat infestations...and that we again find killing to be the easy and convenient solution....

Jenks - you only listen to and cite information that backs your personal argument....

...the scientific evidence supplied by the above, even though biased, still isn't very supportive...and studies by independent scientists reckon the success of a cull to be around a 16% reduction of bTB for about 100 000 badgers killed...

Jenks - I'd be more likely to give you opinion credence if you stopped citing the opinion of the Government, farmers or mad old women.....

I agree too - As I've said, the prices of our staple foods are being controlled by supermarkets...which is crippling UK farming....

And while I sympathise with families on low incomes, there are many who will claim that they can't afford to live...while taking their 4 kids to McDonalds or such for breakfast because they can't be bothered to cook and wash up.....

Do McDonalds now sell badger burgers then ????
