That's the one Alan, I know it needs to be anodised/Duracoated but the proportions are all wrong and it just looks fugly. Think I'll invest in a nitro converted Taurus 44 instead.

This reminds me, I was talking to my gunsmith the other day and he mentioned a .223 chambered lever release, has anyone heard of such a thing over here?

I thought the .223 Question had already been asked on this post, but having read back 8 pages see that it has not.
It is a common Question when people seethe design and the normal answer is that it will only work with straight walled cartridges, not the bottle nose type. Plenty written by others on other forums re this.

From my way of thinking, SGC is in to making .223 AR's as his business, you would think that if he could make this in .223 he would already be doing it. Unless of course you get all paranoid and wonder if he is holding off until he has sold all his straight pull gear?
I think that it would be such a winner that once the word got out hardly anyone would buy a straight pull from anyone else and he would sell as many as he could make - despite himself.

Looking at the version that uses the Glock mags.
I am not against it, on looks alone. I see no reason for competition guns or competitors to be looking like they have just stepped off the battlefield - although you can not get away from the fact that when it comes to AR's competition guns influence military design and vise versa.
The silver dose not scare me off, but the finish dose nothing for me in those pictures.

As the Glock mags release is on the front of the pistol grip, he has had to make a ugly extension for the mag release, but has put on a competition large button. I would be interested to see if that lever got in the way or accidentally dumped mags.
When holding my set up, it is easy to hold the front of the mag well without touching the mag, I can see why he has put that grippy surface on the front of the mag well housing. At least I assume it is for holding - some designs in the US have something similar so that you can jam the gun against barriers for extra support.
Glock mags should be cheaper than the AR mags, however with the US ban on exporting anything over 10 rounds, they may be harder to source.

I now read at the bottom of the link/article 20Series posted that th silver is pr anodising, so they will not be available in silver, just the normal Black. I also read that the barrels are now available in different twists and up to 18 inches long. Not sure if that is necessary in competition as we only shoot out to 50 yards.

For what it's worth I quite like the look of the one with the Glock mags! But I'm not looking at trading in the Destroyer just yet.

From what I understand a 223 version would have to be made with a gas system as it's too powerful for the simple blowback system of the 9mm.

I know the FAMAS (as well as others) have been made with a delayed action blowback system, but I have also heard that the 223 is on the very edge of safety for this type of system.

In theory, it's possible but is it practical for higher pressure rounds?

Your post reminded me of our MP5's at work which use a delayed blow back system. When I first shot them it was really noticeable, now I don't notice it at all until I am cleaning them and see the bolt etc.

Then I remembered seeing a MP5 which had been converted to 7.62 NATO!
Watching this video you see the delayed blow back in action.

Perhaps there is a way forward after all?

HK 51: The HK51 is not made by HK, instead being a creation of the American custom after-market. I would be inclined to think that the Home Office might not like the idea of a gas system with a lever release rifle - for no other reason than "just because"! :G

I think some sort delayed blowback would be the way to go, because the 9mm has already been passed.

We had the HK53's issued with very much the same effect....

Just looked at the MK6. Got to give it to him, quite clever. Yep, it's ugly, but how much of the lower "colouring" is to highlight the lower for advertising?

An AR lower using Glock mags may very well find a market....
