Spray it onto the gun in the right place and allow to dry
Create a negative image of the number on transparent film - I use my computer and print onto acetate sheets, but there are lots of ways of doing it.
Place the negative over the sprayed area and expose to UV light.
Develop the image by swabbing with a little caustic soda solution.
Etch using ferric chloride. The longer you leave it, the deeper the etch, but I don't know how it will react to stainless steel.
Emphasise the image with blueing.
Clean it all off with acetone.
