A gun isn't just artillery tho a GPMG is also called a gun in the army.

I think Gundoc was referring to the mortar tube itself and not the bomb.
Likewise the British Army refers to the bomb as ordnance.

You're quite correct, I went one better although when I did it Para Depot was in Aldershot, Hampshire and not Catterick as stated in the link razz

Don't sound much different from Quantico and Fort Benning. No disrespect to the Paras though - fine regiment. I have a good friend who was a Para during the Falklands do. :)
