This whole thread needs some serious pruning, down to say, the original post! Considering some of the protagnists and previous attitudes expressed regarding handgun shooting its quite the surprise at the amount of energy expended.

I'm disappointed at the stance of some on here.

If we are standing still then we are going backwards. If nothing is done to progress shooting, once all the TR shooters go to the big range in the sky then our numbers will dwindle.

Look at the areas where shooting is growing.

CSR - marmite Bradley has done a great job in growing this sport. This has had a knock on effect of growing the black gun market but again, sadly, not without infighting.
PSG/TS - James Harris has also done a great job in pushing this forward along with F4i. This has resulted in new products such as the BR99 etc etc coming to the UK.
Practical Pistol - by all accounts the match at Bisley was well received, I'll be competing as soon as I can.

Shooting needs to change and evolve. It boils my p*** when I read of people hiding their legal pass time, sneaking their guns into their car and not telling people that they are shooter. To shout down an organisation that is pushing for change using some of the language repeated on here is incredible. Just because you disagree with something there is absolutely no need for grown ups to resort to the tone used in this thread. As Adam says, if you don't like it, move on.

I for one will be behind any campaign to save what we have got or push for relaxation of the Act. Doesn't matter if it only applies to wildfowlers, TR shooters, clay shooters or those weird people that shoot long range pistols while sitting in modified wheelchairs. Social media is where real traction can be made these days.

Can some one tell me what is so wonderful about social media it has been bandied about for years now as a magic wand from selling sh!te to saving the world but I see no difference other than even more sh!te and unreality in the world.

What the feck can it do or what can be done with it that seems to make it so powerful in some people minds?

If this is the case why isn't it changing anything for the better?

We find it's a useful way to communicate quickly to supporters and to reach new people. It gives us a free and open voice where other forms of media might stifle it. I guess one could also say it is simply the "in" thing and it can't hurt to be part of it. :)

You raise an interesting and potentially very serious issue Mike, I have heard many shooters criticise "black guns" and even semi auto shotguns because they aren't "sporting" or there is no "need" for them. As I said previously very dangerous territory when people start to talk about need.

In my experience talking with younger people (people under 30) many of them are interested in shooting and have no idea how to take part in it. Many also are brought up as part of the generation of very realistic video games and thus the sport needs to appear dynamic and interesting to them to compete with such things. It doesn't mean the old traditions should be forgotten but things do need to adapt and move forward. As long as people are shooting safely then it really shouldn't matter what particular style or discipline they prefer. It all comes together.

The above individuals should be commended for creating new opportunities within the sport.

Dromia. Social media is a way of getting a message across, that's all. It's just faster and more responsive than anything that's come before it by a long way is all.

It's just a tool but used right a very powerful one.

I have yet to see its "power", before social media there were other methods of contact each one a "wonder" in its day none of which made any difference on its own, the power of the printing press would have been impotent without the intellectual drive of the renaissance and the enlightenment.

I put today's selfish and morally bankrupt society down to lack of intellectual rigour and so it will be with social media, like television, dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. That is what populates this medium as that is what populates peoples hearts and minds. You get the message to them but are they intellectually equipped to make anything of it, it seems to me it is only a case of the loudest noise wins, volume has more value than content.
