Could be that they want to belong to something with the letters NRA in it that actually looks out for the interests of it's membership.

This is precisely what I am getting at.

A just and reasoned argument cuts no ice with them.
Can we bribe you to shut up and bore off if you can't contribute anything useful? Start your own thread if you want to whinge about how hard done by you are/were.
Having a bad day are we?
Shame you cannot pleasantly accept that someone may have a contrary view.

I think he's OK with you having a contrary view, it's the fact that you're a complete arse about it that gives him issues I think.

Ironically it was the labour government that decided not extend the handgun ban to Northern Ireland. Probably more to do with politics than anything else.
Tony Blair is considering the exemption from the post-Dunblane ban as one of a number of "confidence-building measures" proposed by Mo Mowlam, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, in order to tempt David Trimble's Ulster Unionists into talks along with Sinn Fein on 9 SeptemberThe post-Dunblane ban has caused concern among Unionists who argue that the IRA still maintains a formidable armoury. They believe that keeping hand-guns for self-defence may be complicated by the Dunblane legislation.
The outcome,
Mo Mowlam replied, ``After much thought, I am not persuaded of the need to prohibit the possession and use of target handguns in Northern Ireland. I realise that my decision may disappoint some people who feel strongly, as I do, about firearms control and safeguarding the public''

Labour want to be hard on guns because it's what the public want? Which public is this? Whenever I say I'm a shooter to various people I meet in work/shops/pubs etc most are just intrigued and ask questions, others are not interested and don't. Never have I had a BAD reaction or been censured for my hobby.
What the public want is protection from and prosecution of criminals, with or without guns. Politicians, policy makers and the media need to learn the same basic lesson, A criminal really doesn't care what laws he breaks, they could make a thousand headline grabbing lefty vote winning laws banning all guns from ownership outside the military and it WILL NOT CHANGE A THING! Criminals will still shoot each other.
