I am trying to obtain a better understanding of the differences. I do prefer the look of the AE/AW (the AW may be out of my budget?), maybe the AT will grow on me by the time I purchase? If I am doing to spend that sum of money (milestone Birthday next year), I just want to ensure that I spend it on the right (for me) firearm.

I currently only plink / target shoot and enter the occasional club competition. I would like to try shooting out to longer ranges (currently max is 200m).

Ovenpaa - that blacked out AI of yours is beautiful. I'm new to the long range full bore game so, frankly I don't understand the details of what you guys are talking about yet but nevertheless, gorgeous rifle!

Understood. As I mentioned above, you can replace the plastic stock sides on the AT to the thumbhole version, which then makes it look very similar to the AW. The new stock sides are only £48 IIRC. Also the raised 0 moa rail on the AT can be replaced with a low profile version, so the action will look identical. With those 2 changes it will look nearly identical to an AW.

From what I've read, bonding the action makes a difference, so if you're going to buy second hand, I'd be inclined to go for an AW over an AE personally. Others may of course disagree.

Once again-thank you.

Do you have any thoughts on secondhand values of AE/AW/AT (maybe a bit too new yet)?

The cheaper AT has certainly thrown a spanner in the works. Irrespective of what the owner paid, a second hand AE/AW shouldn't be more expensive than a similar spec new AT and the age of the barrel should factor in to the price IMO. Whether the current owner agrees with this is another matter...

Halodin, you could be right, and equally the old school AW and AE may even climb a little in value, only time will tell.

Yes of course, this is only my opinion, the market will decide.

Could anyone confirm if the AI/AE was made in .223/5.56?

Before I get a .308/7.62 I was thinking of trading my Steyr Aug and side / side shotgun+ the cash difference for a secondhand AI.

After purchasing my first boltaction rifle, I have determined that I prefer boltaction to striaghtpull (still like my Rugger 10/22!).

I've never seen one, so I would say no.
