But if it's done so if it's not easly convertible would not be just section one modification ? Eg converting section 2 shotgun to section 1

No, Specifically a section 5 firearm cannot be converted to Section 1. The law categorically states this.

edit: On second thought, I CANNOT find the Legislation to back up this claim.

I have spent the last half an hour reading through the Firearms Act 1968 and can find NO reference in Section 5 where it states that "once section 5, always section 5" - It just lists the parameters that are set out as to what defines a section 5 firearm. Presumably if you meet the criteria, you can convert firearms. But I suspect Home Office has other things to say...

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27

If anyone can find legislation to back this up, I'm all ears.

The only place I've seen the phrase Once Sec 5 always Sec 5 is on forums. That's not to say theres not evidence backing it up, and we know that certain rifles have been taken off the public for being outside of the guidelines. but I can't see it in black and white...

I've just read through this pointless thread! If you don't like them, don't shoot them.
Or is it a case of can't shoot well with one? Sounds more like sour grapes.
Loads of us shot semi auto before the ban and in the forces /job and yet still achieve a good level of accuracy with them now in straight pull guise.
If you don't like yours or simply can't shoot it for toffee, sell it. Simples.
