Easy cheap mod is taking about half a coil off of the lever latch spring. Start slow and keep trying it, it really gets rid of the initial effort to work the action.
It's probably already been mentioned but a 1 piece firing pin, reduced power hammer spring, polished bolt, lever and lifter make a massive difference.
I had mine cerakoted and that made it even slicker.
Nothing wrong with a good 'Remlin'

No worries mate - when you get it up and running you must try some of Rog's bullets though...just let me know and I'll pop some in the post...
Please keep us updated on the improvements; I'm very curious at to what you do with it...
...it's only a cosmetic thing, but I've always thought the way the wood is just chopped off at the for-end in front of the band a bit cheep and ugly...

Yes it does rather look like it has been lopped off with a bandsaw however the addition of a schnabel forend might not be in keeping...

.if you want to cycle it fast, then keeping the current lever would be better; as the longer the lever/draw the slower the cycling rate
A lot of Americans use under levers for hunting and will buy the aftermarket larger lever for the winter time so that they can wear gloves when cycling the action. Also how does having a larger lever affect the cycle rate when the only mod to the lever is the opening of the lever where the fingers fit into it?

Because the lever is moved by force at the back end of it (personally I don't put my little finger in, so am operating it with my ring finger (an unfortunate phrase...)...so the longer the lever handle the further your fingers/hand/wrist have to travel to open and close the action...
...for GR shooting it could be interesting to experiment with shorter levers...

Nah I don't see how you come to that conclusion but fair enough.

hmmm, not quite how I see it LOL
there is a short stroke kit that was available in the USA for a while, sure it was for the marlin? but I never found a problem with it as it is
I wrap my lever so that fingers are a fairly snug fit, reason being that as soon as I move my hand, I want that action to start moving, saves time and also as theres no "slap" as fingers hit the lever I find it stays on target better during fast racking
not wrapping thumb over the top is another sure way to speed up and smooth out the shooting

Those 'short stroke' kits are interesting, but require changing more than just the finger opening...and quite expensive too.
When I've seen folk wrapping their levers I assumed they were doing it to prevent getting sore fingers, as opposed to doing it for a better stroke...

for the tip, I'll try it...

I did it purely to stop that slack space, you want the action to start moving as soon as you move that hand

I used a piece of rubber fuel pipe on my lever, to reduce the space as my fingers had a habit of flying out of the lever and to make it more comfy.
