As Facebook begins to introduce email and aggregating all forms of messaging, it will get to the stage very soon that the 500 million members will only ever go to Facebook and nowhere else.

Perhaps clubs should think about all forms of social media. My kids very rarely watch live TV. It is all either downloaded or on demand but they are always on Facebook. If we want to attract young blood into the sport then you have to target the media that they use.

This is true, to target the media they use.

However...nothing wrong with showing the kids/youngsters that there is a world outside of Facebook.
If I knew how, I would have that site erased from the internet. I hate (yes hate, not detest or anything milder) everything that site stands for. That by the way goes for all sites of that ilk.
Everything with Facebook is an intrusion of one's privacy. The potential for security issues, social grooming/stalkers/unwanted spy apps are enormous.

Rather target a media that has integrity and is not a danger to the user. We need not to slump to the Facebook level in order to inform new shooters.

There is good and bad on Facebook...just like other media...Tv...Papers...the risk of course would be Dragging in the riff raff...right Christel?

Facebook is a bad place. I have a Facebook accounts but they are locked down to the nth degree and are used by me to confirm a theory on social engineering that I have.

I will say it again, Facebook is a bad place and peer pressure drives many of us to use it, to leave very personal data in the public domain (Think of how many people ask you a security question if you call them, and usually is is Post code, house number and DATE OF BIRTH which is invariably on Facebook)

Facebook apps are written by third parties with very little regulation, and are quite capable of harvesting a lot of information. Facebook default securtiy setting is flawed, Facebook....

I could go on and on and on. :(

EDIT - Facebook is the only site I have blocked at our UK office.

My facebook page is also under tight control, and I know every single person on my list. My kids (only one has a FB page) are also under the same settings. Face book has put me back in touch with friends I had lost contact with over the years.

It can't be all bad.

Its a nice site,
a few things to sort out but you will get there.
I would advise you to set your links to open in blanks (new pages) or maybe a new tab so that you don't lose your surfers and also either protect the contact address with a script or make it a link saying something else other than the address, otherwise you will end up with losts of spam in your inbox once the search engine robots grab your site.
