Actually I think it is. There was a time when we were not in the EU. We managed then. We will manage again.

I dont really care about the politics of it. What I object to is the 2nd layer of politics. And the enforced joining of people / countries / cultures / economies which are not compatible.

And the fact that despite this "common laws" in EU - we get the dirty end of the stick - a lot of things are legal all over EU but NOT in UK !

I think the point the Canadian was making wasn't about Britain leaving the EU but about an individual upping sticks and leaving the UK if they don't like how things are in the UK......hence the reason I asked how that is easy, what with a job, family and other ties here.

It can be that simple. I was offered a job in Melbourne and we were living there 6 weeks later and that included finishing renovating our house and letting it. Depends how badly you want something I guess...

thats because you are skilled, a wanted entity. for a family where the dad works stacking shelves at night in tesco and the mum works part time in mcdonalds. with 2 school age kids, do you see them being able to just up sticks to Aus, on top of that they then only get to see their family once every few years as they cant afford flights every 6 months....

thats because you are skilled, a wanted entity. for a family where the dad works stacking shelves at night in tesco and the mum works part time in mcdonalds. with 2 school age kids, do you see them being able to just up sticks to Aus, on top of that they then only get to see their family once every few years as they cant afford flights every 6 months....

It works for me and my family and anyway that's what Skype is for. I haven't been back to Australia for 8 years because I can't afford it but I speak to and see family on a regular basis via Skype, you just make do with what you've got.

Personally, I don't consider moving country any different from moving house - just requires a bit of extra planning and paperwork and this (moving country) is what we'll be doing in about 5 years time, all going well.

all i'm saying is, its not as simple as just move, for some families. thats all.

If I wanted to go to somewhere like AUS, I don't doubt that I could get in and have a job, but not everyone is in that position

It's not as simple as that.
After Port Arthur the Federal Govt forced the States into unifying their firearms laws across Australia but as each individual state since administers their law you get variations in interpretation and practice. While it is true that the Victorian Police (IIRC) deemed Straight pull AR and the like overtly offensive (or something similar ) which effectively banned them, semi and pump action centre fires are still legal and the rules on rimfire semi auto's appear to have been relaxed but are still subject to the good reason and need criteria.

The big difference between the UK and the various Australian States is that IMO Australia firearms laws are clearer but in any case, it's a moot point because I ain't going back to Oz for love nor money!

Same here, but rules mean very difficult to impossible. However if you are an assylium seeker or Mexican it's as simple as crossing the border (illegally or not) - then you are an "Undocumented alien" and probably OK as long as you keep your nose clean.

BTW: They don't really want more Brits in the USA!

In reality moving country can be done but not in the silly glib manner that Mr Explosive suggested - and it is definitely NOT an option for some people due to lack of finances and other considerations.
