Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"

If a firearm is designed and built as a semi-auto for civilian use then how can it be "converted" to selective fire?

The SIG 550 series, FN-SCAR's, vz 58, etc, all offer civilian versions. These cannot be converted.

The AR-type rifle is very modular, however, select-fire uppers are not available to civilians (unless you have special authorisation).

Why are individuals falsely expressing the myth that criminals and "terrorists" are readily converting sporting firearms? Is there any evidence of illegal manufacture, other than the cottage industry conversion of blank firers? Similarly, is there evidence of illicit conversion of semi-automatic firearms to select fire? Or select fire to semi-automatic? Where is the evidence?

Last time I checked the criminals and "terrorists" had easy access to the black market trade in military small arms.

Am I missing something here?

Putting it simply, if a firearm is capable of semi automatic fire, then its convertible to full auto, it might well turn into a totally uncontrollable fire breathing beast and dump the hole magazine, it might also jam, a completely pointless exercise really, the point is it is possible and some in the EU might seek to ban them on this ground alone.

Take the AR15, google "lightning link" to see how simple it was in that case ..

Whatever happens in the rest of the EU, our French shooting brethren are sure to take a real beating and face severe restrictions on their sport!

Just watched the eu debate, good link thank you, almost enough to make you believe there are decent politicians out there, and really makes a mockery of the piffle spouted by our meps.

The EU debate was good, when you have the Belgium rep stating that it is bad legislation then the point is rather made.

1:52 has the actual commission's proposal, I must admit the ignorance of actual gun mechanics is breath taking! It is literally legislation based upon aesthetics and ignorance of how semi automatic guns work.

The commissioner smugly starts with stating they don't want to stop sport shooters blah blah etc etc then goes onto state that:

They want to ban guns that were once automatic but now are semi automatic so could be converted back to automatic.

My response to that is anybody who has even a bit of knowledge about how semi automatics work will tell you that if you have the knowledge and ability to convert a gun designed as an automatic from semi automatic back to automatic then you would have the ability to convert a semi automatic that was not designed with a fully automatic feature into a fully automatic.

Nice to see the MEP afterward tearing it to pieces!

Listening to the debate it showed just how disadvantaged we are in the UK with regards to shooting, compared to other EU countries.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Evening Sim

Not to mention disadvantaged in not having MEP's willing to actually answer a question or voice a coherent opinion based on some form of knowledge and intellect.
