Being a member of an affiliated club does not mean you can shoot at Bisley. That only means you can shoot at Bisley with the club as a club shoot. Not with the forum.
Essentially, yes. I couldn't justify a 1200 mile round trip to Bisley for a shoot, no matter how good the company! (I know there are other ranges, but Bisley was mentioned specifically.)

In principle I like the idea, but I don't see how it would fit into my shooting.

It might be the fuzziness of being on night shift, but I can't help but feel there is something blindingly obvious that we are missing that would make it work for everyone interested.

Yeah, I know Mike357.
Without being in anybody's face it is actually Bisley that is the problem hence the need for a forum shooting club.
Diggle and Blair Atholl, anyone can shoot there without the restrictions Bisley is enforcing.
Bisley is the only long distance shooting range for us "southerners" that is open to all if you full-fill certain criteria.

That's why I think Bnz and I would be interested.

So have I got this right? The aim is that as long as you are a firearm licence holder, have a competency card if you want to go to Bisley, have insurance either through an affiliated club or with something like the BASC you could pay a fee to be a member of FB(UK) Shooting Club.

If I have got that right it sounds like a good deal. We are members of a club down the road that is affiliated to the NRA but that does not allow us to go and shoot at Bisley when we want to or when an event has been arranged through FBUK. We cannot afford to join the NRA as well. This way we get to keep the use of our local club, the shoots they arrange at Bisley and get a chance to meet at other times at Bisley or other ranges.

I can understand people living a long way from Bisley not being interested but for some of us southerners, Bisley is the only long distance range we can use due to being easy to get to when you are not in full physical health.

I know Bnz and I were not going to attend the postponed Diggle shoot but at least those that wanted to go could have gone without the hindrance of not being a member of the NRA.
You have got it absolutely right!

If Bisley is the problem is there a way of cutting it out of the equation?

Is it possible to have a club without a physical location?

We could then arrange shoots according to the members interested and the facilities needed (NRA membership/affiliation, BASC membership/insurance, SCC requirement, suitable ranges etc).

In our club at Barton guests are not allowed.
So we obviously need to go somewhere else to shoot with forum members.
Bisley is an obvious choice for us.

Absolutely, the club should not be tied down to specific ranges, should not have physical constraints or allegiance to one specific range. The one thing that ties everyone together is the forum, that and a common interest in shooting so we should be able to shoot any any range that will have us under a common banner. I guess it is all down to do people want to shoot with a different group from time to time.

I think it is natural that people who live closest to Bisley will shoot there more often, and people who live near Diggle or Blair Atoll will shoot there more often - But hopefully shoots and competitions can be arranged at all these (and others) ranges (either as seperate or combined comps)- And, maybe, now and again some of us will be fortunate enough to be able to make 'visits'.

At the moment Bisley is being discussed more, due to the membership issues - And the only thing that would make it a 'Bisley dominated' club....is if no one up north wants to join and organise events up there.......
