Obviously for you the Honey Badger is king and nothing will change that but consider that the Wolverine lives in sub-zero Arctic conditions.....it's jaw structure and teeth etc are designed so it can feed on carcasses that are frozen solid, a fully grown 70kg Wolverine would have no problem whatsoever against a 35kg Southern shandy drinking Honey Badger.
Forgot to mention there are numerous accounts from Arctic researchers, animal experts and Arctic inhabitants of Wolverines killing fully grown healthy Polar Bears......if that aint hard I don't know what is!.

Nothing like raising a post from the dead and getting back on track from honey badgers and meerkats!

So saw someone advertising 7N1 not long ago and put an order in and all sold out.

Also wanted some blue Barnaul to go in my “can’t remove the moderator” Bulgarian underfolder because of corrosion from the primers getting in to the moderator threads. On ordering found they had some 77/78 brought in for maritime security fellas and bought a couple of hundred rounds.

Trip to Severnside last weekend put 3 surplus and then 3 of the purported 7N1 down on target first surplus went straight in to the red of an 8” shot n c and the other two touching about an 1” off. The 7N1 followed and not half as good and spread out over 3”.

Having now researched a bit more and kinetic’d a surplus and a 7N1 and compared and both exactly the same, same powder as far as can tell, same head (even sectioned them), all the same weights within manufacture tolerances, same dimensions.

The head construction looks to be a steel outer with a small lead cone followed by a large steel follower finished with a copper wash.

Both marked 188, the surplus 77 and the 7N1 78 on the rim edge and not on the base right next to the primer.

The question is how can you really tell if it is 7N1? Not too excited if it’s not just interested in finding out.

It’s being shot from a Tigr and there was as always a bit of varying wind coming in off of the Severn estuary so may account for the spread..

7n1 uses a different bullet from that used in standard light ball, whereas the standard bullet has a steel core the 7n1 bullet has a smaller, harden steel core with a lead "knocker" but more crucially it has an air gap in the nose



The only way to distinguish 7n1 is by the marking on the 440 round spam can and the paper the rounds are wrapped in as both have the Russian word for sniper in Cyrillic script on them.The type of case and laquer colour is the same as standard light ball so once out of the packs the rounds are indistinguishable.......but another giveaway is the date on the headstamp as most 7n1 released to the surplus market is 1997-dated and pretty much most, if not all 1970's 7n1 was used in Afghanistan in the '80s and during the First Chechen War.

Then definitely not as the bullets on the ones l have are steel core with lead in the nose and no air gap.

Shame but hey ho, l have some 54r brass and .311 heads so will load my own.

7n1 spam can with the all important word in Cyrillic.



If you search images of 7n1 spam cans you'll see they are pretty much all 90's dated with the vast majority being marked "97"

The image below is a standard light ball spam can, if you look at the letters after "7.62" these denote the actual bullet type.The standard bullet type is marked as "LPS" (light ball with steel core) whereas the 7n1 is marked as "PS"

This pic shows a standard 150gr Russian LPS light ball bullet, and whilst it has a small gap in the nose it isn't there by design, and clearly shows the one piece steel core.Often the steel cores can be found with the jacket completely stripped off after being fired into a sand or earth backstop and more often than not they are in pretty good shape.

Yep, that’s the ones. Disappointed as it was implied if not declared they were something more than normal surplus. Live and learn.
