That's a real shame - the Ruger is a nice rifle and I think 300 Blackout is a great calibre for these small deer at relatively close ranges (200 yards and under).
Rather than .300 Blackout why not 7.62x39?, surely ammo is cheaper and ballistically very similar as the .300 Blackout was designed to achieve energies similar to the 7.62×39mm Soviet in an AR-15 platform while using standard AR magazines at their full capacity. The Ruger Mini-30 is chambered in 7.62x39

Didn't think you guys would be allowed to own a Ruger Mini 30. I suppose if it were converted to straight pull...

Straight pull would be correct, we have straight pull versions of the Mini-14 over here so a 30 should be possible.

I have a Mini 30 straight pull Ruger made them like that for the UK market. Mine is a 2009 version and cost me £300 cheap Hawke scope on top hits the bull at 300yds. Spare mags can be got from Brownells.

I had been toying with the idea of getting a Mini 30, but just can't justify it. I already have a perfectly serviceable SKS, and my wife has a Mini 14 Ranch Rifle. It would seem a bit 'me too'. So I opted for a 300 Blackout AR instead. I have a suppressor on order which they promise me will be here this month. Now that would be good for small deer at close range!
