Totally WRONG! I know the guy personally and he's a responsible shooter who's held an FAC for many years. We've also heard of many similar episodes with this particular FEO.bigfathairybiker wrote:I would say that the person mentioned in the OP was probably an arrogant idiot that had been randomly shooting wildlife and got told off.

As many have said on here already, put a complaint in.
Putting in a complaint is probably the most responsible thing he could do.
I take it that as you know him personally you have asked him to put in a complaint?

Re: Anal FEO
Complain about what though? As far as I can see he was applying the letter of the law with the possible exception of the bit about shooting Rooks!
Re: Anal FEO
Number of shots fired on each occasion isn't in the law or the guidance from the Home Office, and the bit about the rooks are worth discussion. If the FEO's visit wasn't a particularly pleasant experience either then it's worth discussing his attitude to his superiors also.Rockhopper wrote:Complain about what though? Get enough complaints in about this FEO and he might change his approach to something more conducive to a good working relationship - do nothing, and nothing will change. Of course he may not change at all no matter what.
Re: Anal FEO
Fair enough - though for what it's worth it's hardly a security consideration (I don't think this was your point - I'm just expanding the conversation) - a quick search for any members name on here will turn up enough threads along the line of "I've got a problem with my MG42-15-GMPG-MP5 blah" that with not much effort one could glean who has what firearms. Of course it could be argued I'm making it easier..........snayperskaya wrote:Each to their own but never really got the list of firearms/signature thing....
I think we've all thought / worried about this at some point (being followed home etc) - but I'm merely pointing out that there are other considerations as regards security. It's not a simple matter of dealing with the "greater risk" it's a layered approach of mitigating as many risks as possible - I certainly can't claim to be brilliant at this but thought it worthwhile to put the BASC article out there.Rockhopper wrote:Villain parks outside shooting range - watches people load guns into car - follows car home - burgles home at his leisure.
Fantasy you might think but this happens quite regularly at mountain bike trail centres.
I'd argue thats a much greater risk to your security than theft of data from a gun club.
Hell I'd argue we should be required to carry a handgun for personal protection by virtue of fact we're carrying firearms (I'm only half joking on this point!)

I suppose its how you define "target shooting" or "usage" or whatever. One round just to comply with the letter of the law might not be seen by most people as being sensible. 20 rounds then its a different matter.
Re: Anal FEO
That's true - but as a matter of law you're under absolutely no obligation to demonstrate how many rounds you fire on a given occasion. Club rules may require an indication so that the life of the backstop can be measured (mine out the copper etc) but there's nothing in law.Rockhopper wrote:nickb834 wrote:Number of shots fired on each occasion isn't in the law or the guidance from the Home Office, and the bit about the rooks are worth discussion. I wonder if the FEO is asking for round count as the member is a reloader and as such there's nothing recorded on his ticket for ammo purchases? If that's the case it can be argued either way that round count is irrelevant as whether it's the shooter verbally stating how many he's shot over the course of the last 5 years versus how many he's written down as shot over the last 5 years - it's uncorroborated evidence however you look at it. Clubs are also under no obligation to record round count so I'd argue the FEO is asking for justification of round count with an uneccessary burden of proof not called for in law.

This bloke reminds me of the clown who visited me for my first application. Almost drove me to the point of telling him to shove the licence up his backside & get out of my house.
Fortunately I was able to hold my tongue just long enough to get an ok & get him on his way...
