I was getting at the fact that AI's and Straight pull rifles look military and therefore could be banned not that they are semi auto.
I know. But this ban proposal is specifically aimed at semi automatic weapons that look like full auto weapons, not guns that look military.

So straight pull rifles look like full autos but aren't semi auto so no ban.
AI is neither semi auto or looks like a full auto so no ban
Some semi autos don't look like full autos so also no ban
Semi auto & looks like a full auto - far too evil, must be banned.

A Glock 17 resembles a Glock 18 so presumably Glocks will be banned throughout Europe.

Regardless of the semantics of proposals any knee jerk ban or restriction on legal firearms is not good news for legal firearms shooters and has to be resisted.

The GTA have already made representations about this to the Home Office and I hope that our other "national" bodies will do so as well. This isn't about the types firearms which will find divisive thinking across the shooting community, just look at the spineless scumbag yardley, this is about resisting political knee jerk legislation that will actually do nothing to avert tragedies such as we have just seen and is just used to give the general public an illusion of safety rather than admitting that such mass murders will happen regardless.

This is an across the board issue about firearms ownership, discussing the types to be affected is missing the point completely and will just divert focus from the real issues that these terrorists are unpredictable mass murderers that are very hard to stop and gutless politicians refusing to tell the truth about how vulnerable the general pubic really is to such threats. For to do that would admit that the only answer is for the public to protect themselves.

But is this knee jerk legislation....? To me it looks like obscene opportunism by the anti-gun brigade such as displayed by ACPO et al after Dunblane and Hungerford.

Not yet, it is proposals. In this case the French government and the EU are the ones championing the bans, the likes of the anti gun brigade are having there work done for them by the EU and French politicians.

No doubt our lot of political ne'er-do-wells will be jumping on the wagon as well.

+1, this had been in the pipeline for a while and was programmed to be debated next year. The liberal Euro-fascists have merely jumped on the opportunity created by the attacks on Paris to fast-track it earlier.
