Thanks. I don't remember the springs being the issue, it was just the upper and lower plates that clamp to the barrel didn't quite line up. I assumed the profile of the barrel was slightly out, but perhaps I should give it another go.

I'm sure a right side cocking handle would ruin such an iconic rifle

Best we tell all those AR, AK, AUG, SVD shooters that they have ruined their icons then ?

To be fair it would great if someone could do something as neat and unobtrusive as those we see on ARs etc. However the "scaffold pole" T handle solution that has been on offer to L1A1 and FAL straight pull shooters so far has been at best somewhat "agricultural"!! :)

The T handles from ARB were never fitted to Fal rifles, he did not do the Fal. The UK spec Fal did not need another handle cycled fine just with the left side handle extended or standard.
The T handle did not work and neither did his rifles. IMO

A friend of mine has one that works just fine. Had an issue early one but ARB sorted it. No hope of him doing any work from his current address though.

Why you'd add a charging handle like that to an L1A1/FAL is beyond me. If you want a rifle that functions like an AR buy an AR.

tbh it looks more like something swiss than an AR

That was the idea and it still is an L1A1, just functions a bit better. My friend loves it and thankfully the early problem was caught by me and my dad. It was a barrel problem, blowing out the shell necks. Was sent back, got a new barrel and all was good then. It was shame he did what he did to get chucked in Prison but he's paying his debt to society and will be out in 18 months or so.
