I would say pick your battles. The website sounds like the highest priority to get more youthful and forward looking members in to the club and then concentrate on more difficult matters where you'll have more support an increased member base.

A website is very useful, ooman. We were a co-founder of a new club just over a year ago and, mainly due to the website, it's gone from an establishment of 12 to 47 in just 14 months. The vast majority of the newcomers came to us via the website and, being a little more youthful and techno-savvy than many, they were very supportive of change and innovation in the the club.

The Range Certificate or a copy, should be on display in the range.

Here are some sections from a Home office document in 2006.
Target-shooters

The revised standard conditions are set out in Annex B. They place the onus on individual shooters to satisfy themselves that the range they intend to use is safe for the use of their particular class of firearm, and that adequate insurance or other financial cover is in place for the use of that range. The easiest way of determining this will be to see the same documents mentioned in paragraph 13, which might well be displayed at the range.

Indeed, this is the way I'm mostly handling it now. By getting more people involved (i.e. those born this side of the Aden Emergency) the club should hopefully enter this century...

Yep, there are currently lots of things that 'should be' with this club, but unfortunately are far from it. A good example being the three or so different range safety notices on display in the clubroom. As safety notices have been nationally updated, instead of removing the previous notice the new one is simply placed alongside. Talk about dangerously confusing for new members...

To illustrate, here's a picture of a range safety notice, displayed alongside the other range safety notices in the clubroom....Can anyone spot the potential problem with it?

I can just imagine the looks on the faces of those about to go forward when the RCO gives the "LOAD" order.......

Are you refeering to 7/ in the Pistol: Safety on the Range?

The scenario is the command to load has already been given, then something happens that requires someone to go forward of the firing point (e.g. a target has fallen over etc), if that occures every one should unload, put the guns down and step away from them. Pretty standard stuff?

I was thinking of point No. 7 Safety in the Club Room Rifle & Pistol, then through association points 6 & 9.

Maybe it's just me, but I certainly wouldn't be happy with people 'testing triggers' behind the firing point while I'm RCO'ing, let alone in the clubroom...

Proving is not very well defined - i.e. no drop a mag & cycle if the breach cannot be seen (repeater 10:22), no remove bolt, not defined as 2 person check or cross check. Use of breach flags not mentioned. Also in the club room it suggests a clear firearms procedure but not after the use on the FP?!?

I despise the term weapon they are not.

No 3 is over long, how about "no persons shall occupy the FP whilst targets are being placed?

When firing an unloaded firearm point it at something safe......... what's that then the RCO's arse?

7 is just rubbish int it........

What ever happened to the basic rules of safety:

Assume loaded until proven clear.
Only touch the trigger when it would be safe to fire a shot.
Never point at anyone even in jest & be aware of your muzzle.
Only load when horizontal to the target.
