Re: New Petition
If you click on the e petition then hm goverment it will take you to a page that explains what happens after that
Re: New Petition
All it says is "signatures, your e-petition could be debated in the House of Commons." Is that all we know? Why could and not would and what happens then?

Re: New Petition
As I understand it, having achieved the minimum of 100k signatures a motion will be put forward to debate the subject of the petition in Parliament.HALODIN wrote:Thanks. What happens if we breach 100k? What are the next steps?
At that stage the next steps will largely depend on what has been achieved up to that point and the manner in which the motion is put forward and any outcomes that are a result of that motion.
There is more to the campaign than a petition, although that is our primary public action at this time, further actions will be announced as the campaign progresses and grows.
Re: New Petition
This answers the could/would question :-
Why do you say my e-petition ‘could’ be debated in the House of Commons?
If your e-petition reaches the 100,000 signatures, it is eligible for a debate in the House of Commons. However a debate may not be possible:
if the subject of the e-petition is currently going through legal proceedings, it may be inappropriate for a debate to be held;
if there has just been, or is about to be, a debate in the House of Commons on the same topic as your e-petition.

Re: New Petition
If it gets 500,000 signatures the Government personally delivers a handgun and a years' supply of expanding ammunition to all who want one.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!
