The Port Arthur Shootings are often attributed to "a Soldier" who was seen at the scene, leaving in a vehicle, there is a short 18-20 video online showing a man camoed up this is actually one of the Tas Police Special Ops Group marksmen.

I've seen the training video, it's not pleasant viewing, my opinion for what it's worth seated targets hit by rounds fired at head height if they'd been standing then it'd mostly be abdominal and chest wounds.

There are often so many questions in these sort of cases as not everything is made public, the perpetrator virtually never lives to stand trial, or is found unfit to stand trial so the press fill in the blanks and the press being the press they get it wrong or make it up.

we've had 3 "successful" event's here in the UK Ryan,Hamilton and Bird there have been other unsuccessful attempts stopped in the planning phase, in all honesty and it's depressing to admit it's only time before number 4 happens

will it be a licensed shooter with legally held firearms? possibly, then again it could be some disaffected little sod who thinks it's his way of getting on the news, or some flavour of fanatic and his mates but it will happen sooner or later.

The Police will get slagged off because action always beats reaction, and the Government of the day will blame legally held firearms, because if it's someone using a firearm held on FAC then legally held firearms are dangerous, if it's some flavour of fanatic using something smuggled in his mates boot well sorry but it'll be your fault again because it's easier to blame you people then cough to an issue.

My final point, next time it happens somewhere in the world take notice of initial press reports, they'll mention multiple shooters (often dressed in black) people see and report what they expect to see, they can't comprehend that a single person can commit such a devastating crime so it must be some evil group, only when it's actually looked into and investigated will it get bottomed out and found to be 1 shooter, when it's multiple attackers it will go on long enough to get cameras on scene and ID whos doing what to whom.

I have read a lot of nonsense about this case, a lot that made sense as well.
I really do not think Martin Bryant acted alone. He was there however there was someone else there or perhaps even several.
Which part he actually took part in, I am not sure. He was an impressionable 29 year old low IQ kid who was easily to persuade to take part in something that he was told was just a game. Just a game. Not the mastermind behind the worst shooting massacre of the history of Tasmania.

Martin Bryant will be 47 years old tomorrow, serving life in a prison in Tasmania, from what I have read he does not say much and trading a can of coke for favours is the highlight of his week. Most people want to see him dead, preferably die in the worst manner one can imagine. Some fight to at least get an inquest/public inquiry into the case, there are many questions not answered. Above all what I struggle with the most is that the Government took his estate away from him, preventing him from paying a decent lawyer. Martin Bryant was under guardianship regarding his inheritance, how come there was no one appointed to deal with that side of things and to sit next to him when questioned? What about his mother? How come the majority of the Australian population think that he pleaded guilty (eventually) at trial. There was no trial.
How come, how come and so on...lots of questions because there were no answers back then and there are none now. Scary stuff when the Government just does it without following national and international laws.

When transcripts and files are locked away for 30-100 years from the public, Dunblane springs to mind, that only makes the people wonder even more about what really happened.

I am confident it will happen again, history always repeat itself.

I can agree with you here, easy to mould and convince, it's not too hard to believe he might have been the shooter at someone else's convincing, looking at the young lad in Devon who blew his own face off in a cafe toilet radicalized via the internet, however that doesn't mean Bryant didn't pull the trigger

Not uncommon for people who've committed unthinkable acts against society, sex offenders often keep themselves to them themselves in prison, screws can't protect you 24/7 and if someone wants to get at you they will, so the best course of action is try not to make enemies

As an adult legally he doesn't require anyone present when under interview, is it best practice when dealing with people who are vulnerable? yes but they can be interviewed, it's possible the custody officer offered the duty brief and he declined, I've seen that happen with people who are career criminals and think they're smarter then the police and first time arrests who think they're innocent

There is actually a procedure, safeguards etc for sealing things, and it's a pain in the ass, sometimes things are sealed in a blanket fashion for reasons that seem not to make sense, in this and Dunblanes case again just my opinion but do the public NEED to know the ins & outs of the injuries inflicted on small children, people eating their lunch?

As I said earlier it will happen again, I can't tell you how close it's come already I very much doubt it will be a legal FAC holder but anyone can have a bad day at work, domestic or just become unwell so it's possible
