I've played with this, their 162gn A-Max and Sierra 130, 140 and 168gn Match Kings and all are great bullets in .284...
Sim, I found the Sierra 130 and 140 Bullets to be a little light for the 7mm Mag. I tried a few bullets and found the 168 to be the most stable bullet (in that rifle anyway). Different rifle might prefer a different bullet. You know how it is.

What kind of barrel life ought we expect from 7mm Mag ? The existing barrel has unleashed 400 canned bangs, we reckon it's good for another 600 or so.

I reckon 600 to a 1000. But as Blu said above, each rifle to it's own.....

It all depends on what accuracy you are prepared to accept too. I.e. if its for example shooting 0.75 MOA now, will you be swapping the barrel when it deteriorates to 1 MOA, 1.5 MOA, 2 MOA etc? Might extend its "life" by a good few hundred rounds (or not, who knows!)

We think that 2 MoA might be a reasonable limit for us: we're a Yorkshire badger after all.
