Subscribing to people's content was mentioned earlier. That's a barrier on its own; especially on Facebook but with Twitter you can search for the misinformed using keyphrases (e.g. "guns should be banned") and at least put your POV across to them. They can then block you of course but by then you've sown the seed in their mind.
