I will be taking the L1 out on it's maiden shoot next Wednesday so I will photograph the gas plug then, and post the pics and dimensions.

Cheers all, John.
Hey, mate. re my Imbel FAL we were discussing today. All my posts have been deleted so we'll continue the discussion here.
What I know so far...
It's a PAC four digit serial number, which I believe identifies it as one of the Sabre Defence rifles.
It's a stamped Imbel upper.
It's a metric lower ('thumbnail' magazine retainer in magwell), three position selector 'S', 'R' & 'A'.
Metric bolt
Inch pattern cocking handle, gas block, gas plug.
From what's been said already about the difficulty of mixing & matching inch & metric parts it's certainly an odd one?...
Someone definitely wanted this FAL to look like an L1A1 I think.
Lighting is too feeble to take decent pictures tonight, I will take some tomorrow in natural light & post them here.

Looking forward to the pics, is there a tab on the end of the TMH, or a gap at the base of the Brit butt where it should be?

Someone spent a lot of money and effort on this rifle!

Dammit! It's saying my pictures are too big, too many pixels. How do I fix this, anyone, please? ...

Many thanks for the pics ...

Well, what do we have here,

Your FE is indeed a British L1A1 three slot example, Enfield 1977, note the non destructive test triangle, typical of the second pattern FE.
The Gas block is again British, Enfield made and 1959 dated, love to see how its been fitted to that barrel.
The cocking handle is BSA and 1960
The TMH and trigger group, are from a Lithgow manufactured L1A1, the "A" marking is typical of later production Lithgow rifles,
The rear sight is a British "Hythe" duel aperture example..
The fire selector is Enfield in origin.
The receiver appears a standard Imbel unit, jump in Fal guys, not really my area.
The bolt carrier is inch pattern and appears to be British judging by the serial number on it.
Standard Brit plastic furniture.

Interesting piece, what history do you have regarding previous owners?

None whatsoever. Bought off a dealer who stuck it on Gunstar at what I considered a good price & agreed when I knocked off a further £200 for a quick sale. Which means they must have got it for a steal, or a trade in?...

I always haggle for second hand guns, dealer or private, & have never failed to have summat knocked off...
Oh, I tell a lie, I tried to knock a bloke down on my M2, he refused to budge saying it was cheap already. It was, to be honest.
