Blu
Er well thats up to the members to decide isn't it but I have heard nothing but compliments about my work and sympathy about the situation from the membership since my services were no longer required on 1 May.

As a shooter, a member and secretary of two clubs I always treated members and shooters as I would expect to be treated myself. Personally I consider myself to have been very good at what I did - if you disagree feel free to say as I can take it

I did not resign despite what anyone might hear via the rumour mill.

Quite simply I was told "Resign from General Council or you don't have a job"; I said "that's blackmail"; the person concerned said "yes!" I had had three other threats along the same lines and this was the final straw.

I refused to resign from General Council and stood up to a bully. Therefore I don't have my job anymore but I am still on General Council where I can do far more good for the membership.

Watch this space . . .

good God Karen I hope you have looked at "constructive dismissal" (please don't answer on an open forum)

It's possibly of little consolation, but good for you.

Karen, well done to you for standing up to the bullies and for standing your ground. I sincerely hope you are taking this matter further through legal channels. What was their problem with you being on the GC if you don't mind me asking.

I value my health too much to use the toilets on any of the ranges, they are nothing short of disgusting. They need jet washing from top to bottom and then re painting and keeping clean. It is nothing but the basics which I feel the NRA are missing the trick over.
Err ...YES, OK but surely that is down to the filthy habits of some shooters who seem to have no sense of hygeine or decency. Crap coverd bogs are down to the USERS not the range staff..(who OK should be cleaning them, but you know what i mean)

I have refused many invites to go there on grounds of distance , crap accommodation and stories told of arrogant stuck up snobby twats who think the place is for them, nothing in any similar threads to this tells me otherwise.

Then again the fact the UK has ONE shooting center (as such) is a disgrace.
So how can you comment on anything if you have never been?

The toilets are disgusting, and I mean in general state of cleanliness, not because of peoples habits. They probably haven't been cleaned in years.

Never ever invite that bunch anywhere, do you fancy having to complete a RAMS everytime you shoot etc
What does RAMS mean.

kennyc,
there is never a need to accept poor hygiene and standards! the portaloos are most likely on a maintained hire contract, all you have to do is check the damn things and if they need it call the hire company and get them serviced (by the same token there is no excuse for the state people leave the bogs in!) the range office has people moving around the site, there is no cost involved, just a minute of someone's time and please don't tell me they are so busy they don't have the time! no one is that busy! I probably go to Bisley 12 full days a year minimum, and I know at least one person on this forum who probably spends that much time a month there!its not just a rifle range it is the National Shooting Centre! it should be to a higher standard than most other ranges and it requires the staff and management to want to change! its not rocket science, it just takes someone to make the decision and follow it through.
I agree whole heartedly, your paying to use the club amenities and not just the shooting range. The club where I am a member of as well as having a loo in the club building also has "rustic" loos dotted all around the ranges. Basically they are a glorified thunder box inside a small weather proof hut but once a week the club has a contractor truck that comes in and pumps all the brown smelly stuff out. I don't think I have ever seen them over flowing the times I have used them.

Hauptman,
Every organisation has it's shortcomings, (ever been involved with the BSAC?), and what's really needed here is shooters on firing points, not a public slagging off.
Yeah well you aren't going to have much success with that if the place is just one big over flowing $hithouse.

I usually refrain from criticising the NRA on the forum, for the reasons that Hauptman has stated - in the last few years I've made a couple of complaints directly to the range office (which were received properly and taken seriously), and the last time I had to contact the NRA, I was fortunate enough to get through to Heather...my problem was solved in 1 minute...and then we talked about our cats :good:

However it does have to be said that the basic facilities seem to be poorly managed, particularly the ablutions, accommodation and the butts.

One of the problems seems to be in getting employees (cleaners, butt markers etc.) to the site - Unless you drive, Bisley is hard to get to for part time staff...why not get a minibus for rail/bus stop pick-ups...it could be worth the investment...?
