Shoot cheap Privi, and then reload it with cheap components - it won't break the bank, and it'll be plenty accurate enough...

Cheap Privi ? And where can we avail ourselves of this stuff of legends? We'd like to shoot .303 but can't find any. In addition, we don't reload so setting up to do that would cost a small fortune too.

7.62x54R can be had for around £30 / 100, but .303 is around twice that, often more.

Fair point - It has gone up a lot....

But if you bought 100 at £65 (is that what they are now?) - then you should be able to get 6/10 shots from each case by only adding another 25 pence worth of other components per round....but like you say...the set up costs...

How many rounds a year would you put down whatever you buy? And, if you don't mind me asking, how come you don't reload?

This last year we've gone through about 700 rounds of 7.62x54R, all of it military surplus. It's as accurate as we are. We use other calibres too - 7.62x39 and 6.5x55 frequently, 7.5 x 55 Swiss when we can get it.

Why don't we reload? We're only just getting into shooting as a hobby and we quite like using military surplus rounds in our military surplus rifles for authenticity as well as low cost. The Swiss GP11 ammo is match grade in any case. That said, when we evolve opposable thumbs, we may consider reloading ...

You shoot, you pay the price. I chose to shoot a rifle in 9mm Bergman (Largo), therefore I have to reload. The same way I bought M95 Steyr (8x56R) so I have to shoot surplus, buy Prvi or reload - that's the price I'm willing to pay and it's worth it, IMO.

I buy a rifle because I like it, working out how to feed it is a secondary concern.

I get what you say about authenticity - it's fun to see how well (or not) the old stuff shoots.

I've been shooting a while, but only started loading a few years back - after a the first year, I wondered why I hadn't always loaded...and trust me mate, if I can do it then you certainly can...opposable thumbs or not!

There's been much talk on here about if reloading is cost effective or not - I save a lot on gallery rounds (.357), but with .303 and 6.5, I recon I'm breaking even...due to all the toys and gadgets ( ) - but it's also a hobby in it's self, and convenient...I bulk buy when I can, and have the rest sent in the post...so I never have to worry if my local dealers have my favorite ammo; I just make what I need, to the spec I need, when I need

I can see that reloading could become a hobby in itself, particularly if the ultimate quest is to pursue absolute accuracy. It might not result in a saving over military surplus ammo but I guess it could cut the cost of match grade stuff.

Depends on you - if you're disciplined, buy sensibly, and only buy what you need...then not too much...

On the other hand - if you buy gadgets (the targetmaster trickler is handy if you don't have the thumbs for a manual trickler), various specialist tools, and nice dies etc...it can soon tot up...

Don't exclude the second hand market - I was given a 25 year old RCBS press, which still works very nicely

Going back to the original post question - why limit yourself to just one Enfield when there are such a lot of variants to collect?

Problem is once you start it's difficult to know when to stop as I have found out..........!
