Re: Swing Rifles - History for Wikipedia
I have a Mk1 serial number 68, so I think it is an early "small bolt head" one, it is in excellent condition, original stock and a 30" Shultz&Larsen barrel and Wilkes sights. I will try and upload some piccys but my photography skills are not that good.

Andrew and I have just been discussing the question of machined actions for the Mark 3s. Andrew believes that these were a temporary feature before the casts ones were ready. Has anyone any gen on this?andrewh wrote:I have a Mk 3 that does not have a cast action and does have the seperate bolt handle. I've also seen one marked "Swing Scotland" from the short time George was there.

Parts and components were not always matching in quantity. Also, receivers were most suffering from rejections..
It is easy to imagine complement of production for missing parts.

Re: Swing Rifles - History for Wikipedia
I finally got to use my new Swing Mk4 at the weekend - and I'm very pleased with it...the trigger is so much better than my Enfield conversion
I was just zeroing it in at 200 on a bag - it was grouping very nicely, with a few shots on the spotting disk...can't wait to use it at 300 and 600 :shakeshout:
A couple of questions for those who have had one:
I noticed that the shoots literally 'ring out' - through the stock and muffs I could hear a definate 'twang!' with each shot...I'm assuming this is just the industrial strength firing pin spring..?
To load it I had to feed the rounds into the chamber by hand, as opposed to dropping a round in and closing the bolt - This is not a problem...I just want to make sure I'm loading it correctly..?

1) The sudden deceleration when the front collar hits the dry ffiring shoulder makes the large diameter spring coils vibrations be amplified.Dougan wrote:I finally got to use my new Swing Mk4 at the weekend - and I'm very pleased with it...the trigger is so much better than my Enfield conversionI was just zeroing it in at 200 on a bag - it was grouping very nicely, with a few shots on the spotting disk...can't wait to use it at 300 and 600 :shakeshout:

2) This is caused by the round lodging into the bottom lug raceway. This started with the MK 3 and persisted up to the most recent RPA productions. I proposed a solution at the time who was not accepted as it imposed a chnage of tooling.

I always listen to my rifles, get to know them. As an example I know the sound of the magazine spring when the last round is chambered on my AI

I was going to be sarcastic, but I know what you mean - with your ear muffs touching the stock, you can defiately hear if something is not right, and all rifles sound different...ovenpaa wrote:I always listen to my rifles, get to know them.
