You can reload with Berdan primed cases BUT - depriming them is a total faff. Berdan primers (smaller than Boxer) are hard to get & you need resizing die with no primer removal pin.

So yes your right use mil-surp as fun blatorama / training ammo & some will surprise you how go it actually is. Especially some 308 nato spec ammo.

When ready to play reloading, buy boxer cased ammo & use that or get some cases to use. Free cases some moderate gear makes ammo at ~45p & over 5-6 relaods you recover the cost of all the gear. But as said elsewhere in this thread, really you have ammo when you want (make) it vs mil-surp that is unreliable supply & you shoot more & possibly gain a whole new dimension to shooting or even another hobby!

Personally i am often too busy to reload, i reload to make std TR CIP ammo cheaper, so sometimes do case prep then hand them over to an authorized reloader (any RFD can reload for an individual) to do imho the boring bit for me (primer powder & head) my TR ammo is a CIP equivalent, its not tuned or optimized etc because if i did then when in some competitions where I use issued CIP i am at a disadvantage. Others reload for F-1 accuracy, some to develop a load, - each to their own.

I'm curious are you saying that you get some one else to re load your fired cases for you. You give them to a RFD and he reloads them for you and you then shoot them in competitions. Or am I miss understanding you.
I have never heard of a authorised re loader. I am puzzled can you enlighten me.
How do you know its re loaded to CIP equivalent if you don't have any input into assembling the rounds.
In all the years that I have been shooting I don't know any body whose reloads I would shoot in any of my firearms.

I personally know of at least three serious blow outs/accidents were people have used supposedly hand loading experts re loaded ammo that have resulted in serious injury.

Other than Eley, RG, Kynoch etc, there are at least two companies in UK that make ammo to spec for specialist applications, they take your rifle fireform their cases then reload them for you to a proven spec - for things like big game hunting. Those rare individuals aside HPS TR will machine reload empty cases or prime-powder-head those you supply ready. (certain cases - good ones like RWS or PPU not GGG) They are an HSE / CIP approved manufacturer & reloader. For a 2215 SMK, an RWS equivalent load & a std CIP case profile & head space: New manufacture 90p/bang, once fired brass 80p, supplied brass 76p ..lots of supplied ready brass less. When the bullet powder primer cost the best part of ~60p is it worth me spending precious hours making them for a saving of ~5p? They are CIP & HSE approved. if you want a special load they make it CIP it (you pay for that) then will make rounds but, charge a bit more. Fulton's will do similar but I think by hand.

Other RFD's might comment?...... but i am informed by 2 RFD's (but have not used) that it is quite legit for an RFD (without HSE approval) to hand reload cases for a specific individual client (so not for stock/shelf sale or club) to a CIP checked specification (make ~25 & send to the proof house for pressure & dimensional checks) & to the clients FAC allowance........
