Wow, thanks for all the feedback, chaps (and apologies for vanishing for a few days - work got pretty hectic!).
As silly as it sounds, I think I'd love to get one of those .22 SAA revolvers. I've always found revolvers really cool. If I were to get a semi-automatic pistol, then it'd probably be a Colt Woodsman, or possibly some kind of .22 Glock Conversion. Was there a big market for Glocks before the ban? I guess they were coming into their heyday in the 1990s, right?

Not sure, but I know you couldn't give Glock/s away here.

I loved them.... I had a mod 21 (.45 ACP) for Standard class Practical Pistol shooting, then also got a mod 17 (9mm) with an "Austracomp" compensator on it for Modified class.
I could always shoot the M21 better than any of my other pistols.

I agree with this, I also had a M21 which I loved. On the practical circuit the Glock was the No. 1 choice for a standard devison pistol before the ban. Most of the guys I was shooting with had moved to a Glock or were thinking about it.
It's interesting to see how many open guns are being built on Glock's now in the states.
As for fun .22 pistols, I had a Ruger Single Six with cylinders for .22lr and .22 Magnum which was a lovely little fun gun

They do seem popular in America, I personally i don't see anything special about them. The only ones you see on the ranges here are usually issued handguns police etc. Horses for courses.
