Would be like our Military using 44 or 58 pattern pouches !!
Being phased out by Smersh SVD assault vests and SSO/SPOSN molle type mag pouches.
The beauty of the old canvas pouch is that it holds four mags, the PSO-1 scope, cleaning kit and cleaning rods, scope adjusting tool, cleaning cloth and spare bulbs for the PSO-1.
Also issued is a small vinyl pouch that contains the oil bottle and winter battery holder for the PSO-1 as well as more spare bulbs and batteries. This pouch is usually carried in a backpack.
I'll take a some pics of the pouches when I get five, I also have a rare dropcase pouch for the 1pn21 scope as well.
Daryll......nice to see another AK, but it needs a bit of Soviet love
Both of mine started out with Romanian wood etc but have been Soviet-ized......including retrofitting an original stamped Soviet stock on the AKMS.The AKM also has a windage adjustable RPK rear sight fitted and both have slant muzzle brakes fitted.Mags are a mix of Izhmash and Tula Bakelites and also have a couple of rare Izhmash aluminium "waffle" mags that were experimental mags issued to VDV Airborne troops in small numbers but weren't widely adopted.
