Okay I have to ask, what's with the range fees on top of the membership cost? I'd have thought that the cost of the membership would give one access to the ranges without being charged again, especially those being charged in excess of 50 quid a year.
I understand if it's a club using a range that doesn't belong to them, but are you still paying the fees for a clubs on site range?
Just curious is all.

With my club the £2 range fee is to pay for your targets. Not sure the reason with other clubs.

Further to my earlier reply - update below:
Club 1 - no range therefore rents only - £60. Allows 0.22LR once per week, Full bore pistol calibre once per month and clays once per month + range fees for all attendances (can get quite expensive if attending all ranges every time they are available) - I am no longer a member
Club 2 - Rents quarry (responsible for maintenance) - £120. 200m, 100m, 50m and PSG - every Thursday and Sunday
Club 3 - Own range - £150, 100yrd to 1000yrd + PSG

Don't know to be honest as one of my clubs has 2 or 3 levels of annual membership I think, with the top level you have access to the ranges 362 days a year between 10am and 5pm with no extra per visit, the next level down you pay a lower fee but then pay £2 per visit and I think the level after that it is lower still but then is £5 per visit.
Sometimes you are lucky and find some courses of fire setup either from a previous comp or other members and other times there's nothing set up at all, nothing else included, targets and patches extra.
My old club just has one set annual fee (£300) and no extra per visit but you need to book lanes in advance by the hour and opening times are quite restrictive.

Water and electricity as it's an indoor range and heating and flushing toilets don't come for free. There is an extra charge for targets and excess money goes into the refurbishment and renovations to the range and butts. We're looking to expand too, so are trying to find extra ways of increasing revenue all the time.

Hey I get that, my local club has the same amenities plus a really nice clubhouse which serves full meals or hot/cold snacks and drinks, $85 a year for both the wife and I, no range fees, bring your own targets or buy the club ones at 5 cents each. Raising money wise, our club has a raffle a couple of times a year, usually for a rifle or a pistol, has family BBQ's in the summer tickets usually around $10 a pop, Christmas dance and raffles, stuff like that.
All good stuff and brings in some extra cash. Most or any work done around the ranges is done by the members. Few pics below.

They put 1,000 brook trout in the pond every year, the pond is oxygenated and flows.

We also have this, our food trailer. Sells hotdogs burgers fries, pop and other stuff. As well as using it for club events it's also taken out to public events and is quite the little earner.

By comparison we have roughly 60 members total... I'd love to have a club like that, but we don't have the numbers to cater for with facilities like this unfortunately :(

Our club is open 365 days a year to members and three days a week to the public (non members) at a cost of $5 per gun.
TG, we have something like 600 member, and I got the membership fee for the wife and I wrong, it's $75 a year for the two of us. Hell compared to the club I'm a member of down State this is sluming it believe it or not and fees there were the same but a much larger membership.
