I had to remove the muzzle thread protector to slug the bore. The thread is a long very fine thread. I took the original flash hider off and fitted a scope because I did not like the way crud built up under it. The crown on this rifle is not a pretty sight.

Now that the rifle is clean the next thing to do is soak a clean patch in lubricating oil. Then run it through the bore of the rifle several times to liberally coat the bore.

The next step is to take a SOFT lead ball of a suitable size I use either .36 or .44 black powder revolver balls.
Coat the lead ball liberally with lubricating oil or gun oil.
Stand the rifle up right.
Place the ball on the muzzle have a soft face hammer to hand. Then drive the ball in until its flush with the muzzle.

Once the ball is flush with the muzzle I use a short piece of rod that will easily pas through the bore about four inches long. Once the ball has entered the bore and is flush with the muzzle place the short piece rod in the centre of your now flat lead ball and tap it with your soft face mallet the lead slug should easily run into the bore. I then use a long piece of rod to push the slug completely through the bore there should be very little resistance. You will end up with a little donut ring of lead left on your muzzle this should come off easily. That's it collect your slug and have a measure.

I slugged the bore twice then measured both slugs they came out at .312. I was going to do the MAS36 then I realized the MAS is counter borred so I don't know how that would work.
Any way the end product.

What this exercise has shown is the poor state of the muzzle crown on this rifle barrel. I think that the barrel is not a huge problem to remove on these rifles I will have to check. What I would like to do is remove the barrel and have it re crowned.

You can crown the barrel with the receiver in place on some lathes, it is all down to the length and bore of the spindle.
